How ta get ta the Emporium
  • Emporium now has a ramp

the emporium is now accessible on both levels by wheelchairs. the shop front already had a from-street ramp, but we have now installed one further in which takes you to the small second level in the space. the incline is quite steep, please be warned, and unfortunately the toilet which we fixed up is not a big space, and there are no handles. we would love any feedback, input and advice as to how to make the space more accessible to anyone. please email!

Welcome To Stokes Croft: A Photo Exhibit 23-30 Jan 2010

I am a young (21) Bristol based photographer (Kingsdown) and I am having an exhibition which demonstrates the positive and diverse creativity of the current generation living in or around Stokes Croft.  The exhibition will showcase a selection of photographs I have been working on over the last 6 months.

The exhibition will be held at The Emporium on 37 Stokes Croft.  It’s open on the 23rd until the 30th of January 2010.  I had previously been working on taking street photography in the area and these reflections focused my efforts and lead to the idea of this exhibition.

I wish to celebrate something of the spirit of Stokes Croft through an exhibition of photographs, street art and new Bristol music.  My idea is to bring something of the visual and artistic activities of young people from the area and some of its street life into this small gallery space and capture the beautiful contradictions that make up Stokes Croft.

On the opening night (23rd of January) free entry, the doors will be open from 7pm on to 2pm with local music acts from Bristol’s home-grown purple dubstep extraordinaire Guido/Punch Drunk/If Symptoms Persist (the headliner) http://www.myspace.com/guidoproductions, Jagos/Passion FM/Something’s what We’ve Done http://www.myspace.com/jagosproductions and Live music from the up and coming Bristol based band Benny Sensus http://www.myspace.com/bennysensus.

Every other day it will be open from 11-5, finishing on the 30th.

Graffiti art work will be supplied by www.threenine.eu and some of their best artists.  In the spirit of Stokes Croft I will have a canvas up inside the gallery and invite artists and everyone to get their opinions/ideas across.
